Victrola Journey II suitcase record player - take it home and listen to some records to help you decide if you want to invest in one of your own.  Plays 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm records.  We have many records at the music library you can borrow, or play your own.

The suitcase style makes it simple to take anywhere - but please make sure you do these things to ensure the record player isn't damaged:

  • Remove the plastic needle cover (see photo) to play a record, and replace the cover when you are finished.
  • Unlatch the tonearm hook (see photo) to play a record, and re-latch before you pick up the player so that the arm stays in place.
  • Make sure the latch on the front near the handle is closed before you pick up the player.
  • Check that the pouch with power cord and instructions are included when you return the player. 

We have one brown and one blue player to borrow.  Go Jumbos!

Tufts ID holders can check out a record player by visiting the service desk. These items can be borrowed for  3 days at a time (this time period may be shortened immediately preceding days the library is closed - i.e. summer weekends, intersession, or a holiday). Instruments must be returned to the Music Library service desk. Please do not drop in return bins or return at another Tufts Library.

Conditions of Use

  • Handle the record players carefully, and be sure to replace the needle cover and secure the arm latch before closing and carrying the case, to prevent damage to the needle and arm.
  • Record player should be returned in the condition it was received.
  • Items must be returned to the Music Library service desk, not through the book drop.
  • Borrower assumes full responsibility for damage, loss or theft.

Damage, loss or theft and related fees

  • If a record player is damaged, lost or stolen, please contact us at musiclib@tufts.edu and a staff member will reach out to you to discuss appropriate actions.
  • Fees start at $150 for lost or damaged record players
