Digital Scholarship Conversations: Boston Soundscapes

Digital Scholarship Conversations series is hosted by Tisch Library. Each conversation will focus on a different topic, helping us share ideas and build community around the intersection of digital technology and our research and teaching. View a listing of past topics and speakers.

Music is a powerful tool used by cultural and social communities to inhabit urban spaces and convey ideas of home. In this event, ethnomusicologist Stéphanie Khoury will present her use of ARCGis StoryMaps to engage students into mapping out Boston’s soundscapes. Such sound mapping offers insights into individual and collective negotiations of social identity, racial inequities, and residents' tactics to claim cultural spaces through public and private musical initiatives.

Stephanie Khoury is an Associate Teaching Professor in Music, and Studies in Race, Colonialism, and Diaspora.
