This session teaches students how to develop a conversation between a text (literature, film, material object, work of art, or piece of music) and its historical and critical context. At the end of the session, students will be able to: turn a topic into searchable concepts; compare search tools and discovery methods, including the use of generative AI tools; find and evaluate both scholarly and primary sources; and explain how different types of sources help to inform the answer to a research question. Social Sciences: Populations & Interventions (75 mins)
This session teaches students how to begin to identify relationships between specific groups of people and programs, policies, and outcomes in child study, community health, social policy, psychology, civic engagement, political science, and other social science contexts. At the end of the session, students will be able to: define populations and interventions in a research topic; choose effective search tools and source types to investigate them; compare search tools and discovery methods, including the use of generative AI tools; use qualitative and quantitative evidence to evaluate their relationships in order to answer a research question.
STEM: Experiments & Evidence/Designs & Constraints (75 mins)
These sessions teach students how to define an information need, locate evidence using appropriate sources and research tools, and evaluate the relevance and credibility of that evidence to support a research project focusing on experiments, mechanisms, materials, systems, or other evidence. At the end of the session, students will be able to: define the scientific question or design challenge; find evidence, methods, and prior research; compare search tools and discovery methods, including the use of generative AI tools; evaluate the quality and applicability of the evidence to answer a research question.
