SMFA Library Fall 2021 hours: 

October 4 – December 23 (except University holidays)  

Open Monday-Friday, 9 am – 5 pm 

Saturday, 1 – 6 pm 

Please note that this schedule is tentative and dates or approaches to services may change at any time.

 

Requesting Items 

  • Books, zines and DVDs from the SMFA Library are available for request through JumboSearch

  • Click Log In in the upper right corner and enter your Tufts username and password. 

  • Once you find an item you’d like to check out, click on the title to open the record, then click Request Item. 

  • You can choose the SMFA Library as your pickup location, or if you prefer, choose Tisch Library and we will send the item there for you to check out. 

  • You'll receive an email notice when your item is available for pickup.  You can come to the SMFA Library desk to check it out when we are open (Monday-Friday, 9 – 5). 

  • If you prefer contactless pickup, please contact smfalibrary@tufts.edu and let us know the date and time you plan to pick up your item.  Items may be picked up Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 – 9 pm and Saturdays from 1 – 6 pm.  

Home Delivery (UPS) 

  • If you would like to have items mailed to you, choose Home Address as the pickup location for your request. 

  • We will ship via UPS to addresses within the continental United States and will include a pre-paid return label. 

  • If you choose this option, a library staff member will contact you for your address after you place the request. 

Renewing Items 

If you'd like to keep your SMFA/Tufts items longer, you can renew them by logging into your account in JumboSearch

  • Click Log In in the upper right corner and enter your Tufts username and password. 

  • Once logged in, click your name in the upper right corner and choose My Loans from the drop-down menu. 

  • Click Renew All at the top of your loan list, or click Renew next to a specific title to renew only that item. 

  • If you're unable to renew, contact us at smfalibrary@tufts.edu

  • To renew items borrowed through ILL, log in to ILLiad with your Tufts username and password and click Renew under the item's title.  You'll receive a notice when your renewal request is either approved or denied by the lending library. 

Scan & Deliver 

  • If you need a chapter or article from a book or journal in our collection, library staff can scan it for you.  If you already know the citation details, log on to ILLiad with your Tufts username and password. Choose either Article or Book Chapter from the left-hand side menu. Fill out the form and submit your request. 

  • You can also request scans through JumboSearch by looking up the item you need and clicking Request Scanned Chapter or Pages, which will take you to the ILLiad request form. 

  • Note that due to copyright guidelines the library will not scan more than: 

  • Two chapters per book that amount to no more than 20% of the entire book. 

  • One article per journal issue that amounts to no more than 20% of the journal issue.

Interlibrary Loan Scan Requests 

  • If you need a chapter or article that isn’t held by the Tufts libraries, you can request a scan from another library through interlibrary loan. 

  • Log on to ILLiad with your Tufts username and password. Choose either Article or Book Chapter from the left-hand side menu. Fill out the form and submit your request.

Course Reserves & Reading Lists 

  • For information about how we can help provide course materials, including how to place materials on reserve and how students can access reserve lists, see the Course Reserves & Reading Lists page of our website. 

Reference & Research Consultations 

  • SMFA Library staff are available by email, phone, Zoom and in-person appointments, whether you’re student, faculty, or staff.  We’re happy to help at all stages of research, assignments, and independent projects

  • For instructors
