Borrowing from music

The Lilly Music Library is a branch of Tisch Library and is located on the lower level of the Granoff Music Center at 20 Talbot Avenue.

Most Music Library materials, including sound recordings, may be borrowed by Tufts students, faculty, and staff. Music library reserve materials have limited circulation. Music reference materials, periodicals, and headphones must be used within the Music Library. Materials that are in demand (e.g., needed for music reserve or if requested by another borrower) will be recalled from the individual who has the material charged out.

You must be a registered borrower and must present your Tufts ID, alumni card, affiliate card, or Boston Library Consortium Card in order to borrow materials from the Music Library.

Contact the Lilly Music Library at or 617-627-3594 for more information.

Music Course Reserves

Arts, Sciences & Engineering (AS&E) faculty can place items from the Music Library collection on reserve in order to make required materials available to a large number of students. Information on current Music Library reserve materials is provided online. All users must present a current, valid Tufts ID to borrow Music Library reserves. Titles not owned by the library can be requested for purchase to support Music Library course reserves. Personal copies owned by faculty teaching the course can also be added to course reserves. All requests for course reserves are processed in order by date received. Instructors can submit reserve requests for media materials using an online form, by e-mail to, or in person at the Music Library.

Reserve Loan Period

Most reserve materials can be checked out for a 4 hour period (or until closing, whichever is shorter). At the discretion of the course instructor, some materials may be able to be checked out overnight or for 3 days.

Reserve Overdue Fines

Music reserve materials that are returned after the time due incur overdue fines at the rate of $1.00 per hour, beginning the minute after an item is due. Overdue fines for reserve materials are higher than fines charged for late return of other materials because of the high demand for reserve items. Charges are posted to the user's library account when the material is returned. Library users can pay reserve fines at the Tisch circulation desk. Cash, checks and Jumbocash are accepted as payment.

Replacement Fees

All users are responsible for replacement fees for lost, damaged or unreturned Music Library reserve materials. Replacement fees are posted to the user’s library account. Please speak to someone at the Music Library if you have any issues regarding these fines, or pay the fees at the Tisch Library circulation desk or online. The Lilly Music Library does not accept payments for fines. (Cash, checks, Jumbocash and Interdepartmental Requisitions (IDR) are accepted as payment at Tisch Library.)
