Library Support for Summer Courses
Library staff are working remotely to find new ways to support summer courses. Our course reserves, streaming media, library instruction, and research support services are all available online while our buildings are closed. Until we can safely reopen our spaces, all of our services will be offered online only.
Electronic course reserves make it possible for students to access ebooks, online journal articles, streaming films, and streaming audio files though Canvas. Reserves requests can be submitted via the Canvas Reading List Tool or through our reserves request form.
Faculty and instructors are encouraged to set up electronic reserves using the Reading List Tool on any Canvas course site. The Reading List Tool connects with JumboSearch to provide students with seamless access to digital library collections. You can create, organize, and submit requests for additional materials without leaving Canvas. More detailed instructions on how to use the Reading List Tool are available on our website.
If the Library does not provide electronic access to a resource you would like to use, please fill out our reserves request form. We will do our best to purchase electronic versions if available; please be advised that there are some items we will not be able to purchase. If an electronic version of an item is not available, library staff can consult with you to potentially locate acceptable alternatives. Contact your department's librarian or a member of the Digital Design Studio staff to discuss embedding library instruction into your summer course. We are open to providing synchronous instruction to your course, or developing asynchronous learning objects to teach important concepts (e.g. evaluating sources, poster design principles) or tools (e.g. using Zotero).
Tisch, Lilly, and SMFA librarians and expert library staff are available to answer your questions via chat, email, or individual consultation with subject experts. Chat is available Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We have configured our chat service to allow us to open up a Zoom session and share screens.
