AS&E libraries update 3/13/2020
Tisch and Lilly Libraries
The Tisch Library building and Lilly Library space are closed to the public and the Tufts community (students, staff who work outside the libraries, and faculty) until further notice. The libraries will maintain virtual resources and business operations to fully support academic continuity and facilitate the completion of courses, research projects, and degrees.
Information about our Scan & Deliver service for library materials can be found here. Scan & Deliver for materials in our on-site collection will be in effect as long as we continue to be able to have staff on site. Interlibrary loan requests for physical materials from other libraries will not be available; students may check with their local public library for possible options.
We will continue to provide support for students who need library assistance through a number of remote options: virtual consultations with students or small groups via WebEx or Zoom, expanded hours for virtual chat, adapting library and Digital Design Studio sessions to a remote classroom context, and our email question service. Exact hours of service will be up on our website before courses resume on March 25th. Faculty should contact your department’s librarian with questions about your specific course.
Tufts community members with checked-out materials should be assured that we understand this is an extraordinary situation, and we will be generously flexible in extending due dates and waiving fines. Further details will also be posted on the library website.
The SMFA Library will be open on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15. Beginning Monday, March 16, the SMFA Library will be closed to the public and the Tufts community (students, non-library staff, and faculty) until further notice. We will continue to provide the same support as Tisch Library describes above. Exact hours of service will be up on our website before courses resume on March 25th.
We encourage faculty, students, and staff to check out library materials they may need for the rest of the semester now. When in doubt, check it out. Please contact us with any questions or comments.
Digital Collections and Archives (DCA):
The DCA Reading Room will close at noon on March 13th and remain closed at least until March 25th. DCA staff will be working remotely; we will respond to questions and research inquires to the best of our ability using digital resources, including all content in the Tufts Digital Library. We are available for archival research consultations and University records management advice via phone, Web Ex or Zoom. Please contact us at archives.tufts.edu or the DCA website with questions.
The Writing Center as a physical space in Tisch Library will be open until Friday, March 13 at noon for previously-scheduled appointments. Drop-in hours for Friday are cancelled. After Friday, ARC Writing Support will be available remotely. Students can schedule appointments as usual through Tutor Finder, and writing consultants and writing fellows will follow up with information on how to connect for their writing appointments, which will be held via videoconferencing, audioconferencing, or phone call. Drop-in hours will be held online in a modified format. (Please note: Spring break hours will be limited as they normally would be; regular hours resume on Sunday, March 22) See updates on the ARC website or TutorFinder or email email@example.com with questions.
The DataLab will be open until noon today, March 13th. Information about support for remote learning can be found on the DataLab website.
