What is Interlibrary Loan?
It is a service that allows Tisch library users to request library materials from the Boston Library Consortium (BLC) and libraries around the world. Libraries that are included in the consortium are all the UMass libraries, Boston College, BU, MIT, Wellesley, Northeastern, Brandeis, UConn, UNH, State Library of Massachusetts, and Williams.
How does it work?
There are two ways to request items that are not available at Tisch Library:
Option #1: Search & request through BLC WorldCat
Search BLC WorldCat and find the title you want. If the title is available from a BLC library, you will see "Request Item from BLC" button, click it. Next choose Tufts University from the drop-down menu. Login with your Tufts username and password or your Tufts library barcode and last name to finish and submit your request.
If your title is not available through a BLC library, you will see a "Request Item through Interlibrary Loan" button. Click it and you'll be taken to our Interlibrary Loan application. Select 'School of Arts and Sciences and Engineering' from the drop-down menu. Log in to the application with your Tufts username and password. You'll be taken to a request form that is pre-populated with your request. Check it over and click the 'Submit Request' button to submit your request.
Option #2: Submit request through ILLIAD
If you find an item that you need and it's not available at Tufts, you can submit a request to have the item sent to you. Log into our Interlibrary Loan application, ILLiad and fill out the appropriate request form. Submit your request and we'll take it from there!
How long does it take?
- Books, DVDs, and CDs from the BLC: 2- 5 days.
- Books, DVDs, and CDs from outside the BLC: 2- 12 days.
